Making Connections
Perhaps one of my greatest thrills as a mom is seeing my daughter understand something for the first time.
Last night, she reached up and pulled at a few strands of her hair, so I did the same thing with my hair. I swear I could see her understand for the first time that what she was touching on her own head was the same thing she's seen on mine these past 11 months.
"Yes," I said, "that's your hair."
She smiled and pulled at her hair again.
"That's your hair," I repeated.
For the rest of the night, every now and then I'd say, "Nicole, where's your hair?"
She'd respond by touching her head each time.
