When my little girl wakes up in the middle of the night, it's usually because she's lost her pacifier and has rolled against the side of the crib. She fusses, rousing my husband or me -- usually me, because I'm the lighter sleeper. Whichever one it is gets up, gives her the pacifier and moves her back to the center of her bed.

Yesterday morning, though, she woke up and said, "Ah dah, ah dah," repeatedly. When I went to check on her, she had rolled over so that she had one arm pinned behind her back. After I went back to bed, I wondered, "Maybe 'ah dah' is her way of saying, 'Daddy.'" In which case, why did I get up?
