Another Word?

On Sunday morning, my daughter sat on the living room carpet with her back to me as she played with something I couldn't see because she had it blocked from my view.

"Bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah," she said. I thought she was just making noise, but then she turned and I could see that what she had been playing with was a ball. She shoved it aside and started to reach for a different toy. Then I said, "Were you saying, 'ball'?"

She smiled, then reached again for the ball and rolled it right passed me. (Her aim isn't very good.)

It all made me wonder, does she understand what a ball is? I love seeing her make these first connections.
