Oh, The Things She'll Read About in History Books

A few months before my daughter was born, my husband and I were standing in a video store that was going out of business browsing for discounted DVDs for our home collection. I remember realizing that video store was the last one in town. Once it shuttered, there would no longer be a physical store at which my husband and I could rent movies (although there are Redboxes all over town). My baby, I realized, would never visit a video store.

Because we can stream Netflix and HuluPlus at home, she may never know what renting a movie is. She may never really know a time when there is nothing on TV.
