Those Fingernails Can Be Dangerous

The first few times my husband and I clipped our daughter's fingernails, it was a two-person job. One of us held her hand steady while the other did the clipping, and she fought us the whole time. Both of us have felt the guilt that comes with accidentally taking a little skin off of her fingers.

Nowadays, we can clip them without the assistance, but I wait until she's sleeping. That means I've got to clip them fast, because getting her hands in the right position and holding them there can wake her up as fast as banging a drum right next to her ear.

My husband still clips them while she's awake. He's braver than I am.
